1. Create a unique and memorable style
The first thing customers notice about your cafe is its aesthetic. The best way to build a loyal customer base is to offer something unique and visually pleasing for patrons to experience – whether they’re waiting for their takeaway coffee or eating in. If it’s been a while since you invested in some new seating or tables, then think about changing it up. There’s a huge trend in recycled – or upcycled – furniture, which offers you the chance to get creative. Do you have a lot of road cyclists as customers or in your area? Think about incorporating bike parts into the design of your furniture. Or maybe there are a lot of artists in your neighbourhood? Consider supporting this community by displaying their artwork. Tactics like this are great ways to keep your business front of mind when customers are deciding where to go for a coffee or meal.
2. Make sure you have good lighting
This may sound like a low-priority issue, but nothing helps (or hinders) the ambience of a dining experience more than the design and layout of your lighting. If you’ve ever sat down for a meal only to find there’s a bright downlight immediately above your face, then you know what we’re talking about. Lighting actually plays a key role in how your customers will perceive the quality of your space. It’s a good idea to invest in lighting that has a dimmer switch, so you have more control over the amount of light washing into the space across the morning, day or evening. Similarly, consider how the lighting is experienced from a customers’ perspective by experiencing it first hand yourself (go on, take a seat and have a coffee!).
3. Get active on social media
Okay, so your cafe has a great look and feel, and you’re pulling in more foot traffic than ever. Still want to up the anti? Social media has become a super tool for the hospitality industry, and Instagram is the perfect platform for this. A few quick tips include; finding a style and sticking with it (i.e. similar colours consistent across all posts so your followers get to know you quicker). Also, get smart with hashtags so you’re better targeting your desired audience; and geotagging, so these people know how to find you. If you’ve made recent changes to your premises, let people know. Invite them to come and see, and consider combining it with the launch of a special new dish or another limited time promo deal.
